Biography

Verbos Electronics is a transcendent electronic musical instrument company. Our products are designed by live performer, music producer and synthesizer aficionado, Mark Verbos. They are carefully designed, built and distributed in Berlin, Germany.

Verbos Electronics debuted in January 2014. Mark Verbos had been performing live techno using hardware synthesizers since 1992, at the age of 16. As an artist, he had released more than 50 records on a multitude of respected labels, as a producer/engineer he had hundreds of releases on indie and major labels including rock bands, pop singers and remixes of some of the biggest artists in history.  As a performer he had appeared in more than 30 countries in some of the most influential venues and events, including Tresor, Berghain, Metro, Tunnel, Avalon, The Loft, The Works, Moog, O.W.A.P. , Berlin Atonal, Bunker and many more. Meanwhile, in the synthesizer world, he had learned from Grant Richter at Wiard Modular and years of fixing vintage instruments. He was renowned for servicing vintage Buchla instruments and developing custom modules that work with them.

For years Mark had been building synthesizers and was experimenting with different ways of doing live performance. In 2013 he set out to design a system that, although Euro-Rack compatible, focused on interface design and was intended for live improvisation. At the start, there were 5 modules, enough to act as a stand-alone instrument. Mark had been performing at the Droid/Trash Audio Bl_k Noise event during NAMM for several years before, but January 25, 2014 Mark performed for the first time using the synthesizer he designed.

The idea was simple. Start with a blank page and design the interface, then make electronics work that way. One part improvised techno live performance, one part Buchla magic. Build on top of years of experience using and repairing vintage synthesizers. Learn from the existing ideas and push the ideas forward.

In the beginning, Verbos Electronics was manufactured by WMD in Denver Colorado. But, due to demand the decision was made, in the summer of 2014, to set up a workshop in New York City, where Mark and Sonya Verbos lived at the time. Then the idea became clear, this artisanal brand could be truly local, hand crafted and fair trade. Applying experience from managing fashion labels, Sonya organized a self-contained workshop and local partnerships where everything that could be done in house or locally, from the design, manufacturing, testing to packaging  was brought in.

At the end of 2016, after several trips, the family business relocated the operation to Berlin, Germany. The local network of partners was replaced and worldwide distribution is now handled by Alex4, also based in Berlin. We now have more than 20 modules and an incredible user community.

Verbos Electronics GmbH

manufactures a line of Eurorack format synthesizer modules designed by Mark Verbos. Mark and Sonya Verbos launched their first five modules at NAMM 2014. After six months of outsourcing their production they moved manufacturing to their 24sq meter New York workspace. In 2017, they relocated to Berlin, Germany.

Verbos Electronics modules are made from the highest quality materials and are designed from the outside in. The panel design is clean, the knobs beautiful, the feel solid, and they are all thin enough fit in a “skiff”. Working with local Berlin companies is a priority; this includes front panels, system cases, product boxes, screen printing and using an electric car service to deliver products to our distributor, Alex4.

All modules are proudly designed and assembled at Verbos Electronics in Berlin, Germany.
